Where found

Woodland, grassy areas, lawns, gardens, and disturbed sites. Widespread.

Notes

Introduced annual herb to 0.4 m tall or sprawling. Calyx teeth spiiny, and erect at the seeding stage. Stems sparsely hairy to hairless. Leaves alternating up the stems, compound, with 3 leaflets, each 0.4-1.3 cm long, 4-8 mm wide, virtually hairless, margins finely toothed, tips rounded or rounded with a small notch; stipules leafy, and fused to the base of the stalks. Flower heads 6–7 mm long, 8–9 mm in diameter, of 3-20 flowers. Individual flowers about 4 mm long, pea shaped, with 5 petals, 2 joined together to form the keel, yellow, persistent at the seeding stage, and turning brown. Flowers mainly Sep.–Jan.
