Perennial herb, stoloniferous. Flower stalks to 0.15 m high. Insect traps moderately numerous on the 'roots'. Leaves numerous, in rosettes and on the stems, to about 3 cm long, about 1 mm wide. Flowers mostly dark violet, 6–10 mm long, upper lip round to oval, tip notched, the lower lip much larger, transversely elliptic, with 3 conspicuous yellow central ridges flanked by several less conspicuous violet ridges. Flowers single, occasionally paired. Flowers December–March.
