Notes

Introduced perennial herb to 1 m high with a creeping rhizome. Leaf margins coarsely and sharply toothed. Stems 4-angled in cross section, surface rough. Leaves opposite each other, 4–12 cm long, 10–40 mm wide, rigid, surfaces hairless; bases somewhat cordate and partly stem-clasping, margins coarsely and sharply toothed, and often slightly rolled down; tips pointed. Flowers reddish purple, pale lilac or blue-violet, tubular, the tube 8–10 mm long, with 5 lobes. Calyx 5-toothed. Flowers in many-flowered branched clusters. Flowers throughout the year.
