Perennial herb to 0.8 m tall. Stems hairless. Leaves alternating up the stems or sometimes the lowermost leaves opposite each other, 0.4-6 cm long, 1-4 mm wide, very narrow throughout or the lowermost leaves wider, margins flat or wavy, entire or toothed, tips mostly pointed. Flowers blue, tubular, with 5 lobes, each 5-9 mm long. Free flower lobes about 3 times as long as the flower tube. Flowers in clusters. Seed cases less than 3 times as long as broad. Flowers all year.
