- Worldwide. On brassicas, lettuce, spinach, some ornamentals, weeds. Important virus disease of brassicas.
- Light and dark patches either side of the main veins. Diseased plant not suitable for market.
- Spread by aphids – they transfer sap with the virus from diseased to healthy plants as they feed. Aphids fly or are blown by wind between plants. It is spread in seed.
- Cultural control: check seedlings in the nursery, and handle seedlings with care; do not plant new crops near old; weed near nurseries and in the field; resistant varieties (Chinese cabbage); collect and burn trash after harvest.
- Chemical control: none recommended.
