Amyema quaternifolia Barlow
Aerial stem-parasitic shrub. Epicortical runners present.
Leaves borne in whorls of four. Leaf blades thick and fleshy, brittle, breaking along a straight line when bent back on themselves. Leaf blades about 5-8.5 x 2.5-3.5 cm, petioles about 0.5-1.5 cm long.
Flowers borne in simple umbels of 2-4 flowers. Pedicels about 2-5 mm long. Primary peduncle about 4-9 mm long. Calyx entire, about 3-4 mm long. Flower buds longitudinally ribbed. Corolla about 30-40 mm long, mainly red but yellow at the apex. Anthers about 3-4 mm long, staminal filaments about 3-5 mm long. Ovary about 3.5-4 mm long. Style about 30 mm long, stigma depressed globular.
Fruits about 9-12 x 6-7 mm. Seeds surrounded by gelatinous mucilage. Endosperm white, quite firm. Embryo green, about 2-2.5 x 0.7 mm. Cotyledons about 1.5 mm long, appressed, discrete.
