Apowollastonia longipes (Klatt) Orchard

Perennial herb or shrub to 1.2 m tall; annual stems erect or scambling.

Leaf blades about 4-7.5(-14) x 2-6(-10.5) cm, almost sessile to petiole 5-10 mm long; blades ovate to suborbicular to lanceolate, both upper and lower surfaces scabrous. Margins toothed.

Flowers on peduncles 10-12 cm long,  1-3 heads per peduncle. Ray florets 10-12(-16); ligule 9-12 mm long, 2-3-lobed, yellow. Disc florets, 10-20.

Fruits produced in a dense head. Each nut (achene) obovoid, 2-3 angled, 2.5-2(-4) x 1-2 mm, grey-black when mature, sometimes with corky wings.

Seed germination time ca. 129 days. Cotyledons +/- orbicular, about 3.5-8 mm diam., petiole about 7 mm long. First pair of leaves scabrous, margins entire or with a few teeth. At the tenth leaf stage: leaves +/- lanceolate, apex apiculate, base attenuate, margins conspicuously toothed, both the upper and lower surfaces scabrous. Stems scabrous, longitudinally ribbed.

Occurs in CYP, NEQ and CEQ. Altitudinal range from near sea level to 1000 m. Grows in beach forest, woodlands, monsoon forest and vine thickets.
