Stem

A slender vine not exceeding a stem diameter of 2 cm.

Leaves

Leaf blades about 6-12 x 1.8-4.5 cm, petioles about 3-8 mm long.

Flowers

Flower heads about 7-8 x 4-5 mm. Outer flowers in the head are female and lack a corolla. 'Calyx' composed of numerous finely barbed hairs. Corolla tube about 4-5 mm long, lobes about 0.3-0.4 mm long. Anthers about 1.2-1.5 mm long, filaments about 2.2-2.5 mm long. Style about 5-6 mm long, stigmas about 0.8-1 mm long.

Fruit

Fruits about 1-1.5 mm long. Plumes about 5 mm long, minutely barbed.

Seedlings

Features not available.

Distribution and Ecology

Occurs in NEQ. Altitudinal range not known but has been collected at 600 m. Grows in upland rain forest. Also occurs in New Guinea and other parts of Malesia.

Natural History & Notes

This species may have some minor medicinal uses.
