Seldom exceeding 30 cm dbh. Blaze darkening on exposure.

Stipules triangular, about 3 mm long, tapering to a fine point. Leaf blades about 4-11.5 x 1.6-5 cm. Domatia, if present, are foveoles with a small opening. Lateral veins forming loops well inside the blade margin. When held up to the light, the finer veins in the leaf blade show a pattern resembling that of ploughed fields on an aerial photograph.

Corolla tube about 8-10 mm long, the lobes about 1.5-2 mm. Lower half of the corolla tube clothed in numerous, +/- prostrate, white hairs on the outer surface.

Fruiting peduncles about 2-5 cm long. Fruit about 1-1.4 x 0.8-1 cm.

Cotyledons obovate or elliptic, about 6-7 x 4 mm, upper surface with a few scattered hairs. At the tenth leaf stage: petiole clothed in pale hairs; stipules densely covered in pale hairs. Seed germination time 27 to 49 days.

Endemic to NEQ. Altitudinal range from 600-1400 m. Grows as an understory tree in well developed upland and mountain rain forest.
