Shrubs or small tree, 4-6 m tall, deciduous. Bark dark grey, rough, fissured, tessellated. Young branchlets stellate-puberulent. Bark hard and difficult to cut. Blaze marked by horizontal speckles.

Leaf blades dull and glabrous above, pale grey stellate-velutinous below, very shallowly 3(-5)-lobed, broadly ovate to ovate, 9.5-13 cm x 11-16 cm; petioles (4.5)-6-12 cm long.

Inflorscence 1-12-flowered; flowers pink, red, orange-red; 25-35mm long x 25-30 mm diamter; perianth shortly 5-lobed; nectaries 4, 3-lobed. Male flowers with androgynophore 12-18 mm long; stamens 24-25. Female flowers with androgynophore 3-5 mm long, 24-25 staminodes.

Fruits pale greenish-yellow, stellate-velutinous, about 6-7 x 3-3.5 cm. Seeds about 8-9.5 x 5.5-6.5 mm.

Endemic to WA. Altitudinal range from near sea level to 450 m. Grows in woodlands but also found in and on the margins of monsoon forest.
