Seldom grows beyond 30 cm dbh.

Leaf blades about 8-21 x 4-8.2 cm, much paler on the underside. Leaves crowded towards the ends of twigs with fairly long sections (10 cm or more) devoid of leaves or leaf scars. About 6-11 main lateral veins on each side of the midrib. Oil dots visible with a lens if not visible to the naked eye.

Flowers about 3-4 mm diam. Sepals about 1 mm long. Petals about 1.8-2.5 mm long with oil dots visible with a lens. Staminal filaments expanded, almost petaloid. Floral disk wavy but continuous, waxy white.

Fruiting carpels about 4-5 x 3-4 mm, outer surface rugose, glabrous or nearly so. Seeds about 2.5-3 mm long.

Cotyledon margins very finely crenate, only slightly longer than wide. At the tenth leaf stage: teeth on leaf blade often obscure, but more noticeable at younger stages. Seed germination time 34 to 114 days.

Endemic to NEQ, widespread throughout the area. Altitudinal range from sea level to 1100 m. Grows as an understory tree in well developed rain forest on a variety of sites.
