Cissus pentaclada Jackes

Vine stem diameters to 10 cm recorded. Dead bark layered, showing growth rings in transverse section.
Leaf blades about 5-15 x 5-14.5 cm, petioles about 2-11 cm long. Stipules about 3-5 mm long, rounded at the apex, almost peltate. Hairs +/- prostrate, medifixed on both the upper and lower surfaces of the leaf blade. Leaf blade margins with 13-15 teeth on each side. Lateral veins about 4-6 on each side of the midrib. Tendrils leaf-opposed, branched with up to four or five branches. Oak grain in the twigs. Very small 'oil dots' just visible with a lens.
Inflorescence clothed in pale brown, tortuous hairs. Inflorescence leaf-opposed, with three major branches. Flower buds pink to red. Flowers about 7 mm diam. Calyx cup-shaped, lobes very shallow. Petals pink on the outer surface, green on the inner surface. Petals about 2.5-3 mm long. Stamens about 1.5-2 mm long. Ovary yellow. Ovules two per locule.
Fruits clothed in a glaucous bloom, fruits +/- globular, about 12 mm diam. Seeds tear drop shaped, about 8 x 5 mm. Embryo about 1.5-2 mm long. Cotyledons shorter than or almost as long as the radicle.

Endemic to Queensland. Occurs in CYP and NEQ. Altitudinal range from near sea level to 200 m. Often grows in gallery forest or riparian forest, sometimes in vine thicket or monsoon forest or along creeks in open forest.
