Euonymus australiana F.Muell.

A small tree less than 20 cm dbh. White granular stripes in the blaze.

Younger leaf bearing twigs green and usually 4-angled. Leaf blades about 4-10 x 2-6 cm. Midrib raised on the upper surface. Stipules small, up to 1.5 mm long, margins hairy, but as the stipules are shed early this feature is only obvious on young expanding shoots. Small oil dots visible with a lens, mainly on the underside of the leaf blade.

Petals about 5 mm long, margins fimbriate. Ovules two per locule.

Fruits about 9-13 mm long, usually 5-angular or 5-lobed in transverse section. Aril at the base of the seed. Cotyledons green.

Cotyledons elliptic to orbicular, midrib raised on the upper surface. First pair of leaves with teeth on the upper part of the leaf blade margin, midrib raised on the upper surface. At the tenth leaf stage: leaf blade elliptic, apex shortly acuminate, base attenuate, margin toothed, teeth small, serrate, confined to the upper part of the leaf blade; midrib raised on the upper surface; stipules small, elongate-triangular. Stem longitudinally ribbed. Seed germination time 65 to 151 days.

Endemic to Queensland, occurs in CYP, NEQ and the northern part of CEQ (eg. Mt Elliot). Altitudinal range from near sea level to 1000 m. Grows in drier rain forest and also found in closed forest on sand dunes near the sea.
