Family

Stem

A slender vine not exceeding a stem diameter of 2 cm.

Leaves

Leaf blades completely glabrous on both the upper and lower surfaces.

Flowers

Calyx tube (hypanthium) about 0.4-1.1 mm long, calyx lobes nil or very small. Corolla lobes about 5.5-7 mm long, inner surface densely clothed in long, white, erect hairs. Staminal filaments about 1.2-2.5 mm long, anthers about 2.2-2.7 mm long. Style about 5.5-6 mm long. Stigmas about 1.7-2.3 mm long.

Fruit

Fruits globose, about 8-11 mm diam. 'Seeds' (endocarps) about 5 per fruit. Seeds shaped like a quadrant, each about 6-7 x 4.5 mm. Embryo about 2-3 mm long. Radicle about as long and as wide as the cotyledons. True seeds about 6 x 3 mm. Cotyledons about 1 mm long and slightly wider than the radicle. Endocarps quite hard, difficult to cut.

Distribution and Ecology

Endemic to Australia, occurs in NT and NEQ. Altitudinal range from near sea level to 100 m. Grows in monsoon forest and rain forest.
