Stem

Decumbent herbaceous perennial. Stems terete, glabrous, rooting at the nodes.

Leaves

Leaf blades 55-150 x 8-30 mm, midrib and secondary veins prominent on abaxial surface; petioles 3-7 mm long and glabrous. Stipules 2-5 mm long, margins with 3-4 long teeth.

Flowers

Inflorescence a 5-8 -flowered pedunculate corymbiform cyme, 1-3 peduncles per node; peduncles 5-10 mm long and hispidulous; pedicels 1-2 mm long. Calyx tube subglobose and ca. 1 mm diam., glabrous; lobes triangular, 1-1.5 mm long and reflexed at the apex. Corolla glabrous outside; tube 1-1.5 mm long; lobes linear 1.5-2 mm long, erect with short, stiff hairs inside at base, reflexed at apex. Filaments with stiff hairs at the base. Style with stiff antrorse hairs on middle half.

Fruit

Capsule globose, 1.5-2.5 mm diameter, glabrous; calyx lobes erect, recurved at apex. Seeds obconic and laterally compressed, ca. 0.5 mm long; dark brown with a reticulate-areolate testa.

Seedlings

Features not available.

Distribution and Ecology

Occurs in CYP and NEQ as far south as Tully. Altitudinal range from near sea level to 400m. Grows in rainforest, vineforest, swamp forest, woodlandAlso from Malesia and New Guinea.
