Family Description

A family of 20 genera and about 400 species, pantropic; two genera occur naturally in Australia.

Genera

Barringtonia - A genus of about 40 species in Africa, Madagascar, Asia, Malesia, Australia and the Pacific islands; four species occur naturally in Australia. Henderson (1982); Payens (1967).

Planchonia - A genus of about 10-15 species in Asia, Malesia and Australia; one species occurs naturally in Australia. Henderson (1982).
