Family

Stem

Erect herb 15-30 cm tall. Stems quadrangular, smooth.

Leaves

Petiole 0.5-1.5 cm long. Leaf blade 40-50 x 25-30 mm. Numerous cigar-shaped glands visible on both the upper and lower surfaces of the leaf blade. Lateral veins 5-7 on each side of the midrib.

Flowers

Inflorescence a terminal group of 3-5 dense spikes. Bracts 4-4.5 mm long, linear-lanceolate. Bracteoles 2. Adaxial sepal free, abaxial sepals fused for half their length. Corolla white, 3-4 mm long, corolla lobes hairy on outer surface. Filaments hairy at base. Disc annular with undulate margin. Style 2-2.2 mm long.

Fruit

Capsule 4-5 mm long, hairy at apex with 4 seeds. Seed with prominent hook at base, seed 0.6 mm diameter, with short appressed hairs.

Seedlings

Features not available.

Distribution and Ecology

Occurs in CYP, a native species recorded from the Massey Creek area. Also from Irian Jaya and Papua New Guinea. Grows in riverine and gallery rainforest.
