Straggling to erect annual up to 60 cm tall; stems, 4-angled and hairy, the hairs pointing downwards.
Inflorescence of 5-8 -flowered axillary verticils borne on the rachis. Each flower ca. 8 mm diam., subtended by a linear, hairy bract 1.5-2.5 mm long. Calyx campanulate, 3.5-8 mm long, strongly 10 -ribbed on the outer surface and ending in 10 teeth each 0.8-3 mm long. Corolla tubular, tube ca. 7 mm long, 2-lipped at the apex. Upper lip 4-5 x 3 mm, densely hairy, long ciliate; lower lip 3-lobed, glabrous, 4.5-5 mm. Stamens 4, epipetalous, enclosed within the lower lip. Anthers orange to red, ca. 0.25 mm long, filaments ca. 4 mm long attached to the throat of the corolla tube. Ovary seated on a cream disk, deeply 4-lobed. Styles ca. 8 mm long.
Fruit comprising 4 dark, oblong nutlets ca. 1.5 mm long, enclosed within and falling free of the membranous calyx. Nutlets triquetrous, smooth, ca. 2 mm long. Endosperm oily. Embryo ca.1.5 mm long.
