Whiffin, T.P. () Flora of Australia 18: 325. Type: Stone Crossing, Wenlock R., Qld, 12 deg 23 S, 142 deg 10 E, 10 Oct. 1980, B.Hyland 10761; holo: QRS.

Stem

Seldom exceeding 30 cm dbh.

Leaves

Leaf blades about 7-12 x 3.5-6 cm. Lateral veins scarcely visible on the upper surface but forming loops or an intramarginal vein near the margin. Small oil dots visible with a lens. Stipules absent but scars resembling stipular scars are visible on the twigs between the petioles.

Flowers

Inflorescences shorter than the leaves. Flowers small, petals about 2-2.5 mm long. Stamens eight, anthers with a long spur at the base and a raised gland on the spur on the opposite side to the filament attachment.

Fruit

Fruits depressed globular, about 8-9 x 10-12 mm. Seed globular, about 6-7 mm diam. Cotyledons crumpled and folded many times.

Seedlings

Cotyledons +/- semiorbicular or reniform, about 15-21 x 29-34 mm, shortly petiolate. Midrib forking at near the apex but the midrib not reaching the apex of the cotyledon. Several small stipules or stipule-like glands present at the base of the cotyledonary petioles. First pair of leaf blades glabrous, +/- obovate, apex obtuse, midrib depressed on the upper surface. At the tenth leaf stage: leaves decussate, leaf blade ovate, elliptic to narrowly obovate, apex obtuse, base attenuate, midrib depressed on the upper surface. Lateral vein angle high, about 80-90 degrees with the midrib. Stems square in transverse section, the edges narrowly winged. Stipule-like glands conspicuous. Seed germination time 73 days.

Distribution and Ecology

Endemic to Queensland, occurs in CYP and NEQ. Altitudinal range from sea level to 300 m. Grows as an understory tree in rain forest and gallery forest.
