Living bark strong and fibrous when stripped. Blaze layering inconspicuous. Narrow yellowish brittle stripes usually visible in the blaze. Dead bark layered.

Leaf blades about 4-10 x 2-5 cm. Petioles short. Very small oil dots just visible with a lens. Main lateral veins slightly raised on the upper surface, curving but not forming definite loops. Leaf blades pubescent on the underside. Oak grain in the twigs. Twig bark strong and fibrous when stripped. Buds clothed in pale brown prostrate hairs.

Sepals and outer petals similar, shed well before anthesis. Inner petals about 13-16 x 4-6 mm. Pedicels at flowering about 15-30 mm long. Stamens about 12. Ovaries about 11-12.

Fruiting carpels subglobular, about 9-15 x 10-14 mm, stalks about 5-7 mm long. Seeds 1 or 2 fruiting carpel. Embryo minute.

Endemic to Australia, occurs in NT, CYP and NEQ. Altitudinal range from sea level to 250 m. Grows in gallery forest and the drier, more seasonal rain forests.

Food plant for the larval stages of the Fivebar Swordtail, Fourbar Swordtail, Green Spotted Triangle, Pale Green Triangle and the Green Triangle Butterflies. Sankowsky & Neilsen (2000).
