Usually encountered as a small tree not exceeding 30 cm dbh. A thin cream layer is usually visible beneath the subrhytidome layer before the first section of the outer blaze.

Stipules leaf-like, quite large, about 10-30 x 3-10 mm, midrib conspicuous. Young leaves pink to red. Leaf blades about 12-28 x 5-7 cm. Lateral veins forming loops inside the blade margin.

Inflorescence pendulous, individual flowers sessile. Calyx rusty stellate tomentose. Petals narrowly oblong, about 5 mm long, coiled in the bud. Anther connective extending as a long curved structure beyond the anthers. Ovary hairy at the apex.

Fruits sessile, rusty stellate tomentose. Seeds about 7 mm long. Testa smooth and hard.

Cotyledons broadly ovate to orbicular, apex narrow, shortly acuminate. At the tenth leaf stage: leaves obovate, apex acuminate, base cuneate, upper surface glabrous, 12-15 lateral veins each side of the midrib; stipules linear triangular; terminal bud clothed in pale stellate hairs. Seed germination time 20 to 21 days.

Endemic to NEQ, restricted to the Noah Creek area between the Daintree River and Cape Tribulation. Altitudinal range from near sea level to 500 m. Grows as an understory tree in well developed lowland rain forest.
