Pandorea nervosa Steenis

Vine stem diameters to 3 cm recorded. Living bark layer quite thick compared with the size of the stem. Sapwood surface corrugated.

Leaflet blades about 4.5-10 x 1-5 cm, lateral leaflet stalks absent or up to 0.8 cm long. Stalk of the terminal leaflet longer than those of the lateral leaflets. Petiole bases joined by a horizontal rib across the twig. Scattered glands resembling miniature meteorite craters visible on the underside of the leaflet blade.

Flowers about 15-20 mm diam. at anthesis. Corolla glabrous on the outer surface, inner surface pubescent at least towards the base. Tube about 3.5 cm long, lobes about 8 mm long. Anther locules divaricate, joined only along a small section. Ovules numerous in each locule, stigma 2-lipped, the lips quite flat.

Fruits elongated, about 12.5 x 2 cm, including the stipe. Calyx remnants persistent at the base. Seeds numerous, winged, each seed flattened, about 5 mm long, with a membranous wing about 5-8 mm wide attached to all sides except the base of the seed. Cotyledons bilobed, wider and longer than the radicle.

Seed germination time 25 days. Cotyledons about 6 x 8 mm, apex bilobed or deeply notched, three to five-veined, midrib branching and not reaching the apex. First pair of leaves trifoliolate, leaflet margins coarsely toothed or three or four-lobed. At the tenth leaf stage: seedling completely glabrous, leaf compound with five to seven leaflets, leaflet blades ovate to elliptic, margin with three to seven coarse teeth on each side, lateral veins forming loops inside the blade margin, midrib depressed on the upper surface. Compound leaf rhachis narrowly winged.

Endemic to Queensland, occurs in NEQ and in CEQ on Mt Elliot. Altitudinal range from 450-1150 m. Grows in well developed upland and mountain rain forest.
