Stem

A slender vine not exceeding a stem diameter of 2 cm.

Leaves

Leaf blades about 6-12 x 3-7.5 cm, petioles about 1-2.5 cm long. Twigs, petioles, upper and lower leaf blade surfaces clothed in pale brown hairs. Glands (about 0.5 mm long) resembling stipules present on the twigs between the points of attachment of pairs of leaves.

Flowers

Inflorescence hairy, an open panicle up to 11.5 cm long. Flowers about 3-6 mm diam. Calyx lobes about 1 mm long clothed in pale brown hairs. Corolla outer surface clothed in rust-coloured hairs. Corolla tube about 2 mm long, lobes about 2 mm long. Anthers about 2 mm long, filaments hairy, about 1 mm long. Anthers fused to form a cone surrounding the style and stigma. Nectary (disk) glands 5, surrounding the ovary. Carpels about 1 mm long. Style + stigma about 2 mm long.

Fruit

Fruits about 16-17 cm long clothed in short, brown, prostrate hairs. Seeds numerous, each about 10-14 mm long. Plumes about 12-30 mm long. Embryo about 8 mm long. Cotyledons about 4.5 mm long. Radicle about 3.5 mm long.

Seedlings

Features not available.

Distribution and Ecology

Endemic to NEQ. Altitudinal range from near sea level to 1250 m. Grows in well developed rain forest areas on a variety of rock types.
