Psychotria daphnoides var. angustifolia Benth.
Bentham, G. (1867) Flora Australiensis 3: 428. Type: Queensland, Bowman.
Usually flowers and fruits as a shrub about 1-2 m tall.
Calyx lobes are reduced to small teeth. Corolla tube about 4 mm long, densely septate hairy on the inner surface at least in the area of stamen attachment. Corolla lobes about 2 mm long, inflexed at the tip. Disk comparatively large, white and fleshy protruding well above the hypanthium. Pollen white. Style glabrous, divided for much of its length.
'Seeds' (endocarps) longitudinally ribbed. Cotyledons +/- orbicular, much wider than the cotyledons.
Cotyledons about 10-13 x 7-11 mm, stipulate, the intercotyledonary stipules about 1-2 mm long. First pair of leaves opposite and stipulate. At the tenth leaf stage: leaf blade linear, about 8-10 x 1 cm, margin thickened. Petiole very short or nil. Stipules about 5-8 mm long, interpetiolar, encircling the stem, 4-lobed at the apex, i.e. bifid between each pair of leaves. Stem clothed in white or pale brown hairs. Seed germination time 75 to 89 days.
Endemic to Queensland, occurs in NEQ and CEQ. Altitudinal range in NEQ from 500-700 m. Grows as an understory plant in monsoon forest and vine thickets, sometimes in open forest.
