Seldom exceeding 30 cm dbh.
Calyx lobes small, less than 0.5 mm long, calyx tube glabrous. Corolla tube about 2.5-4 mm long, glabrous throughout except for a ring of hairs on the inner surface at the apex of the tube, the lobes about 4-4.5 mm long. Anthers exserted, finely tuberculate, filaments hairy at the base. Stigma +/- cylindrical but shortly 2-lobed at the apex.
Cotyledons narrowly elliptic to linear, about 18-20 x 3-4 mm. At the tenth leaf stage: leaf blade +/- elliptic, apex acuminate, base attenuate, glabrous; stipules interpetiolar, triangular, acuminate. Seed germination time 65 days.
Endemic to NEQ, restricted to the higher mountains between Mt Sorrow and Mt Bartle Frere, and on Hinchinbrook Island. Altitudinal range from 400-1500 m. Grows as an understory tree in well developed mountain rain forest.
