Erect shrubs or trees, 3-20 m tall. Trunk buttresses absent; bark scaly or fissured, gray or brown. Branchlets light to dark grayish brown or somewhat reddish, smooth, glabrous to sparsely sericeous (hairs whitish or clear and reddish at base), oil glands sparse and in distinct.
Petioles 5-9 mm long, sparsely short-sericeous becoming glabrous, brown to black, adaxially deeply channeled. Leaf blades 4.5-14.0 cm long, 1.8-6.0 (-9.0) cm wide, elliptic, ovate to (rarely) widely ovate, discolorous or slightly dis colorous, base cuneate or rarely rounded, apex acute or rarely obtuse, the tip obtuse or acute; margin flat; upper surface glabrous to glabrescent, oil glands absent, midvein impressed; under surface glabrous (except sometimes hoary in minute whitish patches), oil glands abundant; lateral primary veins prominent, 5-9 (-13) mm from mar gin at midpoint of leaf; intramarginal vein indistinct, 0.8-2.4 mm from margin at midpoint of leaf.
Inflorescence in fascicles on branches. Flower pedicels erect or drooping, 2-4.5 mm long, sparsely and shortly sericeous. Bracteoles 2, opposite, steeply ascending, 0.5-0.8 mm long, 0.3-0.5 mm wide, triangular, sparsely sericeous, midrib absent. Hypanthium 1.5-1.8 mm long, cupulate, sparsely and shortly sericeous, oil glands common. Calyx lobes 1-1.2 mm long, broadly rounded, apex obtuse, green or whitish. Petals 3-4.5 mm long, 3-4 mm wide, obovate, widely obovate, or oblate, white, glabrous, oil glands sparse. Stamens ca. 60-75; staminal disk glabrous; filaments 2.5-3.5 mm long; anther sacs 0.7-1.0 mm long, sub cylindrical, basifixed, connective apex with a single oil gland. Ovary apex glabrous; style 3-5 mm long, glabrous; placenta linear; ovules ca. 25-30 per placenta.
Fruit ca. 7-8 mm long, 8-9 mm in diameter, subglobose to globose, circular in cross section, base round, reddish maturing to dark purplish to black, glabrous.
