Common name

Shrub sida; Sida, shrub

Stem

Usually grows as an erect shrub about 1 m tall but has also been recorded as prostrate.

Leaves

Leaf blades about 1.5-5.5 x 0.5-1.8 cm, margins serrate. Both the upper and lower surfaces densely stellate hairy. Stems clothed in short stellate hairs and scattered simple hairs. Stipules linear, about 4 mm long.

Flowers

Calyx about 7-9 mm long, densely clothed in stellate hairs. Inner surface of the calyx tube +/- glabrous, lobes hairy. Ovary with about 9-10 locules, each containing one ovule. Stigmas about 9-10.

Fruit

Fruits capsular, consisting of 8 mericarps each ending in two horns clothed in backward or downward-pointing hairs. Each mericarp about 3-4 mm long, horns about 5 mm long. Seeds brown, about 2 mm long.

Seedlings

Features not available.

Distribution and Ecology

Endemic to Australia, occurs in WA, NT, NEQ, CEQ and southwards to inland areas of South Australia and New South Wales. Altitudinal range not known, but in NEQ collected at 760 m. In NEQ grows as an understory plant in disturbed vine thickets and monsoon forest.
