Native Derris
Climber with woody stems twining to high in canopy; sap oozing from cut stem not turning red; buds and young stems with rusty hairs; stems becoming glabrous; stipules 2, free, lanceolate, 2 - 4mm.
Pinnate with a terminal leaflet, alternate, 100 - 150mm; stipules on leaflets 2 -3mm, often falling early; petiole 30 - 60mm; leaflets 7 - 13, opposite; lamina ovate to elliptic, 25 - 70mm by 15 - 35mm; upper surface dull, glabrous; lower surface with sparse rusty or colourless hairs; pinnately veined with 5 - 8 main laterals each side of midrib, distinct on upper surface, raised and prominent below; lateral petiolules 2 - 3mm; terminal petiolule 5 - 11mm.
Inflorescence an axillary raceme 100 - 250mm long; pedicel 5mm; flowers bisexual, strongly zygomorphic (pea-like); calyx 5-lobed; petals 5, very unequal, standard strongly reflexed at base, 10 - 12mm long, mauve and white with green markings, wings and keel as long as standard, mauve and white; stamens 10, 9 fused into open tube, upper stamen free; carpel 1; ovary superior.
Dry indehiscent pod, compressed ellipdoidal, 30 - 70mm long, leathery to papery, brown, glabrous; wing on upper margin 2mm wide; seeds 1 - 4, circular, compressed; aril small.

Occurs in CEQ and southwards to north eastern New South Wales. Altitudinal range from near 60 to 900 m. Grows in rain forest and dry rain forest.
