Stem

Can grow into a small tree but also flowers and fruits as a shrub.

Leaves

Oak grain visible in the twigs. Leaf blades about 8-15 x 2-7 cm, petioles about 0.5-1.5 cm long, channelled on the upper surface. Venation usually conspicuously, 3-veined, sometimes 5-veined. Terminal buds and young shoots clothed in short reddish brown hairs.

Flowers

Inflorescence a condensed umbel-like raceme. About 20-50 flowers in each umbel. Pedicels about 4-12 mm long. Peduncles about 10-30 mm long. Tepals about 8-10 mm long, clothed in reddish brown 2-armed or T-shaped hairs. Anthers about 0.6 x 0.6 mm, sessile, near the apex of the tepals. Hypogynous gland one, greenish-yellow +/- boat-shaped, partly encompassing the stalk of the ovary. Ovary on a stalk about 4-5 mm long. Style +/- glabrous, about 7-12 mm long, stigmas 1 mm diam., lateral at the apex of the style.

Fruit

Follicles linear, about 3-8 cm long.

Distribution and Ecology

Endemic to Australia, occurs in NT, CYP and the northern part of NEQ. Altitudinal range from near sea level to about 100 m. Grows in vine thickets, monsoon forest and rain forest particularly on laterite, sandstone and old sand dunes.
