Usually flowers and fruits as a single-stemmed shrub about 1-3 m tall.

Leaves quite large, leaf blades often about 30-40 x 4-8 cm. Lateral veins forming loops just inside the blade margin. Twigs, petioles and terminal buds clothed in dark brown hairs. Petioles quite short, about 0.3-0.6 cm long.

Inflorescence about 3-15 cm long. Calyx lobes about 1 mm long, appressed brown pubescent. Corolla about 4-5 mm long, glabrous. Stamens about 25. Styles glabrous, about 3 mm long.

Fruits flask-shaped, about 7-10 x 4-6 mm, calyx lobes persistent at the apex. Seed ovoid to pyriform, about 7-8 x 4 mm. Embryo U-shaped.

Endemic to NEQ, known from the headwaters of the South Mossman River to Mt Lewis. Altitudinal range from 300-1000 m. Grows as an understory plant in undisturbed or only slightly disturbed upland and mountain rain forest.
