Family

Stem

Seldom exceeding 30 cm dbh.

Leaves

Younger leafy twigs, petiole and midrib on the underside of the leaf blade clothed somewhat sparsely in long, straggly hairs; older twigs and leaves glabrous. Leaf blades about 6.5-15 x 1.5-4.5 cm. Upper surface of the leaf blade arched between the lateral veins. Midrib depressed on the upper surface. Scale leaves usually present at the base of each leafy shoot.

Flowers

Inflorescence about 8-20 mm long. Flowers about 2 mm diam. Calyx lobes about 1 mm long. Corolla about 3 mm long. Stamens about 10-15. Style glabrous, about 1.5-2 mm long.

Fruit

Fruits ovoid, about 10-12 x 8-9 mm. Endocarp thick and hard, longitudinally ribbed or grooved, stone, obpyriform, about 8 x 5 mm. Cotyledons about as wide as the radicle.

Seedlings

Cotyledons about 15 x 1 mm. First pair of leaves hairy on both surfaces. Seed germination time 295 days. 

Distribution and Ecology

Endemic to NEQ, from Mt Bellenden Ker to near Millaa Millaa. Altitudinal range from 500-750 m. Grows as an understory tree in well developed upland rain forest.
