Syzygium maraca Craven & Biffin

Tree to 24 m tall. Bark brown to red-brown, papery, flaky. Branchlets may be angled or round.
Older twigs usually with papery bark. Leaf blades about 4-13 x 2.3-6 cm.
Bracts caducous, absent at anthesis. Calyx tube (hypanthium) campanulate at anthesis, shortly pedicellate, tube (hypanthium) about 9-22 mm diam., calyx lobes +/- hemispherical, to 6-7 mm long. Petals spathulate, reflexed at anthesis, about 8-16 x 7.5-12 mm. Outer staminal filaments about 18-25 mm long, glandular, anthers about 1.5-2 x 0.7-0.9 mm, gland absent. Ovules about 15-30 per locule, placentas central, ovules irregular, ascending. Style about 40-41 mm long, approximating or exceeding the stamens.
Fruit red or glossy dark red, pear shaped, 55-110 x 28-55 mm. Seed 1, 30-35 mm across, testa present, uniembryonic. Embryo with the cotyledons readily separable and not interlocking funicular tissue present, equal in size of nearly so.
Features not recorded.
This species is similar to Syzygium aliiligneum, but can be distiguished by its pear shaped fruit and reduced inflorescence.
