Rhizomes up to 15 x 2-3 cm, creeping and proliferating.

leaves several together; petioles 10-25(-75) cm long; lamina hastate to ternatifid; anterior lobe 18-20 x 10-12 cm; posterior lobes 11-12 x 4-5 cm, rarely almost linear.

Inflorescence sometimes several in succession; spathe to 20 cm long, convolute in the lower part into an ovoid-globose to broadly globose chamber housing the female zone and sterile interstice, separated from the limb by an abrupt constriction; limb broadly ovate, spreading, acuminate, greenish abaxially, deep purple adaxially; spadix marlkedly shorter then the spathe; female zone basal, 1-2 cm long,followed by a zone ca. 0.5 cm long of filiform sterile organs, then a naked zone to ca. 3 cm long; male zone 1-1.5 x 0.5 cm, the male flowers 2- or 3 staminate; appendix conical, obliquely truncate at the base, to ca. 5 x 2 cm, blackish purple;

Occurs in CYP, NEQ, CEQ and south into New South Wales. Altitudinal range from 200-750 m. Grows in closed forest, Eucalypt forest, deciduous vine thicket and also in various types of shrubland and woodland.

Poisonous to cows and goats (Webb 1948).
