Ventilago pubiflora C.T.White

Vine stem diameters to 5 cm recorded.

Leaf blades about 6-9 x 3-6 cm, petioles about 0.5-0.9 cm long. Stipules about 1 mm long. Tendrils are modified branches.

Inflorescence branches quite short. Pedicels about 3-5 mm long. Sepals triangular, about 2.5 mm long, densely clothed in hairs on the outer surface. Petals about 1 mm long, deeply bilobed at the apex, each petal enveloping a stamen at least at the flower bud stage. Ovary embedded in the disk which +/- fills the hypanthium. Style bilobed at the apex. Stigmas two.

Fruits are conspicuously winged samaras. Fruit + wing about 25-40 mm long, wing about 8-9 mm wide and conspicuously veined with a midrib and lateral veins. Seeds globular, about 2.5-4 mm diam. Radicle about 0.4 mm long, much shorter and narrower than the cotyledons.

Usually 3-5 small cataphylls produced before the true leaves. First pair of true leaves ovate, leaf blade about 1.5 x 0.7-0.8 cm, apex obtuse, base obtuse, margin toothed with three to five teeth on each side. At the tenth leaf stage: leaf blade about 3-4 x 1-1.5 cm, midrib depressed on the upper surface towards the base of the leaf blade but raised towards the apex. Lateral veins often forming loops inside the blade margin. Terminal bud and stem clothed in pale brown to somewhat yellowish hairs. Stipules linear, about 1 mm long.

Endemic to Queensland, occurs in CYP and CEQ, and southwards to south-eastern Queensland but not yet collected in NEQ. Altitudinal range in CYP from near sea level to 300 m. In CYP found in rain forest and monsoon forest.
