Family Description

A family of 14 genera and about 850 species, pantropic and warm temperate regions; six genera occur naturally in Australia.

Genera

Ampelocissus - A genus of 90-100 species, pantropic but extending into the subtropics; three species occur naturally in Australia. Jackes (1984).

Causonis - A genus of about 30 species in Asia, Malesia, Australia; five species occur naturally in Australia. Jackes (2020).

Cayratia - A genus of about 25 species in tropical and subtropical Africa, Asia, Malesia, Australia and the Pacific islands; three species occur naturally in Australia. Jackes (1987; 2020).

Cissus - A genus of about 350 species with a world-wide distribution, more common in the tropics but also extends into temperate regions; 14 species occur naturally in Australia. Jackes (1988).

Clematicissus - A genus of two species, both endemic to Australia.

Leea - A genus of about 34 species in Africa, Madagascar, Asia, Malesia, Australia and the Pacific islands; two species occur naturally in Australia. Ridsdale (1974, 1976); Molina et al (2013).

Tetrastigma - A genus of about 120 species in Asia, Malesia, Australia and the Pacific islands; five, perhaps six species occur naturally in Australia. Jackes (1989).
