Wendlandia connata C.T.White

Seldom exceeding 30 cm dbh. Brownish, stripe-like markings in the outer blaze.

Stipules large, 6-20 x 3-4 mm, slightly fused at the base and encircling the twig. Leaf blades about 9-19 x 3.2-6.5 cm, much paler on the underside. Domatia are tufts of hair. Midrib depressed on the upper surface.

Inflorescence about 10-15 cm long, approximating or exceeding the leaves. Calyx tube (hypanthium) and/or pedicel pubescent, tube about 2.5 mm long, lobes about 2 mm long. Corolla tube about 4 mm long, lobes about 3 mm long, rounded at the apex. Stamens included in the corolla tube, anthers about 3-3.5 mm long, filaments about 1 mm long. Ovary with numerous ovules in each locule. Style about 7-8 mm long.

Fruits about 6-7 mm long before opening. Seeds variable in shape, about 0.5-1 mm long. Testa reticulate, muricate.

Endemic to NEQ, restricted to the Mt Spurgeon-Mt Lewis area. Altitudinal range from 1000-1400 m. Grows as an understory tree in well developed mountain rain forest.
