Stem

Occasionally grows into a small tree but usually flowers and fruits as a shrub about 2-4 m tall.

Leaves

Stipules triangular, pubescent, about 1-2 mm long, clothed in pale prostrate hairs. Leaves small, leaf blades about 1.5-3 x 1-1.5 cm. Petioles clothed in pale hairs.

Flowers

Peduncles long and slender, about 10-20 mm long, sometimes could be mistaken for pedicels. Calyx lobes about 1 mm long. Corolla tube about 4 mm long, lobes +/- orbicular, about 1 mm long.

Fruit

Fruits globose, about 5 mm diam., calyx lobes persistent at the apex and bracts usually persistent at the base. Endocarp hard.

Seedlings

Cotyledons elongated, about 10 x 3 mm, apex +/- mucronate. First pair of leaves opposite, stipulate, stipules interpetiolar, about 1-2 mm long. At the tenth leaf stage: leaf blade elliptic, about 10-15 x 6-8 mm with a few hairs on both the upper and lower surfaces, stipules interpetiolar, about 1-2 mm long, hairy on the outer surface. Seed germination time 63 days.

Distribution and Ecology

Endemic to Queensland, occurs in NEQ and CEQ. Altitudinal range from 200-600 m. Grows in monsoon forest, vine thickets and some of the drier rain forests particularly those with Hoop Pine (Araucaria cunninghamii).
