Stem

Seldom exceeding 30 cm dbh. Fine stripes usually visible in the inner blaze.

Leaves

Leaf blades about 12-20 x 3-7 cm. Petioles channelled on the upper surface.

Flowers

Flowers about 2 mm diam. Male and female flowers on separate racemes on the one plant. Petals much shorter than the calyx lobes. Stigmas long, narrow and recurved.

Fruit

Capsule disintegrating at maturity leaving only the stalk and central axis attached to the tree. Testa shiny, +/- dappled. Aril small, no more than a caruncle.

Distribution and Ecology

Found in CYP and NEQ. Common in the Claudie River area. Altitudinal range from near sea level to 100 m. Grows in well developed gallery forest along creeks and rivers.
