Shrubs or trees 1.5-10 m tall.

Leaf blades 8.5-16 x 1.8-7.2 cm, broadly or narrowly elliptic, to ovate, to oblong and more or less oblanceolate; apex blunt and acuminate. Numerous oil dots visible with a lens. Stipules tapering to a fine point at the apex. Lateral veins about 4-11 on each side of the midrib, forming loops inside the blade margin. Domatia usually present, inconspicuous, foveoles with a comparatively small opening.

Inflorescences generally 2 to 11-flowered, with peduncle 1-5 mm long, sometimes branched. Flower pedicel 3-5 mm long; calyx 2 x 2 mm, glabrous or few short hairs on lobes; corolla white, yellow when aged, 6-9 mm long, tube 3-5 mm long, lobes 2.5-5.5 x 1.5-2 mm. Stigma broad, rounded but 2-lobed.

Fruit on pedicels 5-7 mm long, pale reddish-pink when ripe, laterally compressed and lobed at apex, 8-12 x 16-23 mm. Seed wrinkled.

Seed germination time 26-61 days. Cotyledons linear-ovate, 25-39 x 4-6 mm, midrib raised on the upper surface. Cotyledonary stipules triangular, apex pointed. First pair of leaves glabrous, narrow elliptic, apex bluntly pointed, base cuneate, midrib raised on the upper surface. Hypocotyl flattened, elliptical in transverse section. At the tenth leaf stage: leaf blade narrow elliptic to elliptic, about 40-68 mm long x 6-9 mm wide, apex rounded to acuminate; stipules interpetiolar, wide at the base but narrowed abruptly to a fine point at the apex.

Occurs in NT. Altitudinal range from sea level to 40 m. Grows as an understory plant at the edge of wet monsoon forest.
