Shrub or tree 3-10 (-15) m tall. Young stems and buds with appressed medifixed (attached near the middle) hairs, stems soon becoming hairless.


Leaves alternate, simple. Stipules absent. Petioles 0.3-1.1 cm long. Leaf blade linear (juvenile leaves), elliptic to narrowly elliptic or oblanceolate, 5-20 cm long, 0.7-4 cm wide, base attenuate, margins entire, or rarely lobed or irregularly toothed on larger leaves, apex acute, obtuse or mucronate. Upper leaf surfaces hairless, lower leaf surface with sparse appressed medifixed hairs or hairless. Lateral veins 16-30 pairs.


Inflorescences terminal or axillary, raceme-like, shortly cylindrical to subglobose in outline. Flowers bisexual, 4-merous, zygomorphic. Tepals of 4 lobes, 10-12 mm long, perianth tube ± cylindrical, scarcely dilated in the lower half, apical region incurved, lobes dilated and concave at apex around anthers. Tepals becoming free and reflexed after anthesis to expose style and stigma. Tepals with appressed medifixed hairs on outer surface and bearded on the inner surface, particularly on the lower half; creamish. Stamens 4, sessile in concave tips of tepals. Ovary superior, 1-carpellate, style longer than tepals with pollen presenter near apex of style, oblique, convex. Hypogynous gland or nectary obconical. Ovules 2 per ovary.


Fruit a dry follicle, flattened laterally, ellipsoid to ± obloid in outline, 2-3 cm long, smooth, apex acute or mucronate with persistent style base. Seeds usually 2 with marginal wing.

Distribution and Ecology

Occurs in CEQ, from Eungella (W of Mackay), southwards to south eastern Queensland around Beenleigh. Grows in margins of and in dry rainforest communities, vine thickets and brigalow communities.
