Family Description

A family of about 19 genera and about 85 species, in eastern Malesia, New Guinea, Australia, New Zealand and western Pacific.

Genera

Dianella - A genus of about 20 species in Africa, SE Asia, Malesia, Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific islands to Hawaii; about 15 species occur naturally in Australia. Identification to the species level or lower is sometimes very difficult.

Geitonoplesium - A monotypic genus in Malesia, Australia and the Pacific islands. Conran & Clifford (1986); Laferriere (1995).
