A family of about 50-55 genera and perhaps 3000 or more species, pantropic but found at higher latitudes particularly in the northern hemisphere; eight genera occur naturally in Australia.

Beilschmiedia - A genus of more than 200 species, pantropic; 11 species occur naturally in Australia. Hyland (1989).

Cassytha - A genus of 23 species, one species (C. filiformis) being cosmopolitan while the other species are found in Africa, Asia, Malesia, Australia and New Zealand; 19 species occur naturally in Australia. Weber (1981; 2007).

Cinnamomum - A genus of about 250 species, pantropic; five species occur naturally in Australia and one species has become naturalised. Hyland (1989).

Cryptocarya - A genus of about 200-250 species, pantropic; 48 species occur naturally in Australia. Hyland (1989); Cooper (2013).

Endiandra - A genus of about 100 species in Asia, Malesia, Australia and the Pacific islands; 38 species occur naturally in Australia. Cooper & Cooper (2004); Harden et al. (2014); Hyland (1989); Le Cussan & Hyland (2007).

Lindera - A genus of about 100 species in Asia, Malesia, Australia and South, Central and North America; one species occurs naturally in Australia. Hyland (1989).

Litsea - A genus of about 400 species, pantropic but occurring at higher latitudes particularly in the northern hemisphere; 11 species occur naturally in Australia. Hyland (1989).

Neolitsea - A genus of about 80 species in Asia, Malesia and Australia; three species occur naturally in Australia. Hyland (1989).

Persea - A genus of about 150 species in Central and South America; one species has become naturalised in Australia. Kostermans (1957).
