A small tree seldom exceeding 30 cm dbh.

Young shoots and twigs with longitudinal grooves, densely clothed in brown hairs. Leaflets about 4-10 in the compound leaf, each leaflet blade about 5-24 x 3-6 cm. Midrib hairy and raised on the upper surface of the leaflet blades.

Petals about 5-6 mm long, longer than the sepals. Stamens eight, filaments hairy. Disk glabrous, not continuous. Ovary hairy. Ovules 1 per locule.

Fruit 3-lobed, lobes ellipsoid, about 8-15 mm long. Ripening red through purple-black. Seeds 9-12 mm long. Cotyledons thick and fleshy, one larger than the other.

Durian germination. Entire seedling with minute erect hairs except for the upper surface of the leaflet blades. Leaflet blade margins ciliate. Midrib raised on the upper surface. Central leaflet blade 30-37 x 14-18 mm, lateral blades 23-30 x 10-11 mm. Seed germination time 382 days.

Occurs in WA. Altitudinal range not great, from near sea level to 100 m. Grows in monsoon forest. Also occurs in SE Asia and Malesia.
