Family Description

A family of about 29 genera and 500 species, pantropic; eight genera occur naturally in Australia.

Genera

Geniostoma - A genus of about 24 species in the Mascarenes, Malesia, Australia and the Pacific islands as far north as southern Japan; one species occurs naturally in Australia. Conn (1980); Conn et al. (1996).

Mitrasacme - A genus of ca. 54 species in India, Malesia, SE Asia, Japan, China and New Caledonia; 48 species occur naturally in Australia.

Strychnos - A genus of about 170 species, pantropic; three species occur naturally in Australia. Bisset et al. (1973); Conn & Brown (1993); Conn et al. (1996); Leeuwenberg (1980).
