Family

Stem

Erect ascending herb 30-100 cm tall. Stems longitudinally 6-ribbed with longitudinal white stripes.

Leaves

Petiole 0-6 mm long. Leaf blades 45-80 x 4-20 mm ; numerous cigar-shaped cystoliths present on both the upper and lower surfaces of the leaf blades; upper surface more densely clothed in hairs than the lower surface. Lateral veins 4-5 on each side of the midrib.

Flowers

Peduncles 4-20 mm long, bracts 2-4 mm long. Floral bracts unequal, linear, 11-17 or 5-8 mm long, clothed in both glandular and simple hairs. Calyx 4-5 mm long, lobes fused only the base. Corolla tube curved, 10-12 mm long, lobes 5-7 x 4-5 mm. Anthers 2-celled, the locules one above the other, filaments winged, ca. 5 mm long, attached to the throat of the corolla tube. Ovary ellipsoidal, ca.1 mm long. Style about 15 mm long. Stigma bifid.

Fruit

Capsule 8-10 mm long, densely covered by eglandular and glandular hairs. Seed 2-1.8 mm diameter.

Distribution and Ecology

Occurs in CYP. Grows in shrubland, deciduous vine thicket, microphyll vine forest, open forest, gallery forest and on banks in rainforest, mostly on sandy soil.
