Family Description

A family of 20 genera and 100 species, pantropic but particularly well developed in America; one genus occurs naturally in Australia.

Genera

Monococcus - A genus of 1 species, found in New Caldeonia, New Hebrides and Australia. Cooper & Cooper (2004); Harden (2014); Hewson (1984).

Phytolacca - A genus of about 25 species in the tropics and subtropics, mostly in tropical America; three species have become naturalised in Australia. Backer (1951); Hewson (1984).

Rivina - A genus of one to three species originally from tropical America but now pantropic weeds; one species has become naturalised in Australia. Backer (1951); Hewson (1984).
