A family of about 12 genera and 400 species, cosmopolitan, particularly well developed in the Mediterranean region and western and central Asia; three genera occur naturally in Australia.

Plumbago - A genus of about 10-12 species, pantropic; one species occurs naturally in Australia. Steenis (1949).
