Seldom exceeding 30 cm dbh.

Leaflet blades rather large, about 12-24 x 4-9 cm, with a short stalk. Petiole swollen at its junction with the compound leaf rhachis. Midrib raised on the upper surface of the leaflet blades. Lateral veins forming loops just inside the blade margin.

Panicles about 20-34 cm long, densely flowered, pedicels about 2-5 mm long. Calyx lobes about 1.5-4 mm long. Petals about 2.5 mm long, clawed, with thickened basal margins, pubescent outside. Stamens usually eight, filaments about 4-5 mm long, densely hairy over most of the filament. Disk glabrous, orange (?), stamens inserted inside the disk.

Fruits 2-locular, broadly obovoid, about 18-20 x 20-25 mm. Valves thickly coriaceous, glabrous throughout, reticulate on the outer surface when dry. Seeds about 11-15 x 11-12 mm, aril small, yellow and basal.

First pair of true leaves ovate-lanceolate, blades about 30-55 mm long. At the tenth leaf stage: leaf blade narrowly elliptic, about 20 cm long, lateral veins forming loops just inside the blade margin, midrib raised on the upper surface; terminal bud clothed in pale prostrate hairs. Seed germination time 26 to 28 days.

Endemic to NEQ, restricted to the area between Mossman and Tully. Altitudinal range from near sea level to 500 m. Grows as an understory tree in well developed lowland and upland rain forest.
