Family Description

A family of 55 genera and 1010 species, pantropical and temperate.

Genera

Casearia - A genus of about 160 species, pantropic; nine species occur naturally in Australia. Jessup (1982); Sleumer (1954).

Flacourtia - A genus of about 17 species in Africa, Asia, Malesia and the Pacific islands; two species occur naturally in Australia and one species has become naturalised. Jessup (1982).

Homalium - A genus of about 200 species, pantropic; three species and two informally named taxa occur naturally in Australia. Cooper & Cooper (2004); Harden et al. (2014); Jessup (1982).

Scolopia - A genus of 35-40 species in Africa, Madagascar, Asia, Malesia and Australia; one species occurs naturally in Australia. Jessup (1982).

Xylosma - A genus of about 100 species in tropical America, SE Asia, Malesia, Australia and the Pacific islands; four species occur naturally on the Australian mainland. Harden et al. (2014); Jessup (1982;1984).
