Perennial erect herb 1.5-2 m tall with the stems 3-6 mm diam., angles scabrid.

Leaf scabrid on margins, sheath 30-65 mm long; contraligule narrowly-ovate to triangular, 5-10 mm long; lamina30-60 x 0.7-1.2 cm.

Inflorescence a terminal panicle 4.5-11 cm long usually with 2 smaller axillary panicles; primary bracts erect, longer than the leaves, secondary bracts inconspicuous. Spikelets 4-5 mm long. Anthers with long reddish appendages. Disc deeply 3-lobed, lobes thin and flat, acute.

Nut shiny white, nearly globular, 2-2.5 mm long, minutely hairy, smooth, apiculate.

Occurs in WA and NT. Altitudinal range from 20-210 m. Grows along streams in rainforest also in Melaleuca swamp.
